A Look at Mazda Kinematic Posture Control

Mazda vehicles are some of the most enjoyable to drive mass-market models thanks to a number of reasons, not the least of which is the system known as Kinematic Posture Control. This technology acts very subtly, but it provides just the right amount of handling correction to have a significant impact on your enjoyment behind the wheel. Mazda’s Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) is a unique system designed to enhance the handling of your car, especially when navigating challenging terrains or making sharp turns. Here’s a brief explanation of this system and the way it works:

  1. Detection: Mazda’s Kinematic Posture Control uses a series of sensors that work together with the car’s braking, steering, and suspension systems. These sensors can identify when one side of the car is experiencing more G-force than the other, such as during a skid, or simply when taking a fast corner.
  2. Action: Once the sensors detect this imbalance, the system automatically applies brake force to the rear wheel that is on the inside of the current turn. This action modifies the vehicle’s momentum by helping it corner more aggressively and more naturally, providing a better response to your steering input and less body roll.
  3. Regulation: The system can also vary the degree of braking force applied, like when you’re taking a tight corner and one side of the car is under more pressure. KPC helps to keep the car balanced and reduces the load on the car’s suspension as it navigates the turn. This makes for a more stable feel and a higher level of road holding that is rarely seen on competing models. Furthermore, the system applies stronger braking when you are accelerating out of a corner in order to enhance the effectiveness of the limited-slip rear differential in some models.

The Mazda Kinematic Posture Control system was first introduced with the 2022 MX-5 Miata sports car, and it has subsequently been added to other models such as the brand-new CX-90 SUV.

In summary, KPC is a performance-enhancing tool that improves the driving experience by providing better balance and control when cornering. It’s important to note that KPC operates automatically using the car’s existing sensors and computers, and doesn’t require any additional hardware or manual input from the driver.
