2024 Mazda CX-30 Engine Comparison: Comparing base and turbo engine options

The year 2024 has brought notable improvements to the Mazda CX-30, further solidifying its position in the subcompact SUV market. The model notably introduced the Suna Edition, combining distinctive exterior styling with refined turbocharged performance. Additionally, the 2024 Mazda CX-30 now features a 10.25-inch infotainment display, offering wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as touchscreen functionality for an enhanced user experience.

Multiple elements that stand out

This subcompact SUV offers exceptional value with impressive standard features. i-Activsense safety features, including Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, come standard. Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years, allowing owners to monitor and control the CX-30 remotely via the MyMazda app.

The well-appointed interior features an 8.8-inch center display with the latest Mazda Connect infotainment system, controllable via the multi-function commander knob, and integrated with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other amenities include a Mazda Harmonic Acoustics eight-speaker sound system, seven-inch LCD multi-information gauge display, push-button start, remote keyless illuminated entry system, black cloth seats, rearview camera, manual climate control, electronic parking brake, and power windows with one-touch automatic up/down.

The stylish exterior of the CX-30 includes LED automatic on/off headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights, a black rear roof spoiler, and dark grey high-lustre metallic finish 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The Mazda i-Activ AWD system continuously monitors weight distribution and shifts power to the appropriate wheels, providing drivers with near-instant response to inputs. In addition, all CX-30 models are equipped with G-Vectoring Control Plus and Off-Road Traction Assist as standard.

Comparing 2024 Mazda CX-30 Engine Options

Now, let's dive into the engine options of the 2024 Mazda CX-30. This year, the 2024 CX-30 takes its standard performance to new heights with the Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre engine, featuring cylinder deactivation to replace the previous Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre engine. This upgrade delivers 191 horsepower and an impressive 186 lb-ft of torque on regular octane fuel, resulting in a 28 percent increase in horsepower and improved overall fuel efficiency.

For those seeking even more power, there's the turbo option. The Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo four-cylinder engine produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft of torque on premium 93 octane fuel, while on regular 87 octane fuel, it still provides a robust 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Here's a quick comparison of the two engines:

Torque

320 lb-ft (premium) / 310 lb-ft (regular)

10.5 l/100 km city - 7.9 l/100 km highway (premium)

To put the pricing into perspective, let's look at the 2024 Mazda CX-30 GT, which offers both engine options. The 2024 Mazda CX-30 GT with the base engine has a starting price of $40,145, while the 2024 Mazda CX-30 GT with the turbo engine starts at $42,545. As you can see, the price difference between the two is minimal.

Few vehicles in the $42,500 range offer the performance and features that the impressive Mazda CX-30 GT with the turbo provides. However, for those who don't require the extra power, the base Mazda CX-30 starts at just over $28,000 and delivers class-leading 191 horsepower as standard, providing exceptional performance.

Ultimately, the right choice between engine options depends on your specific needs, but you can't go wrong with either, making the 2024 Mazda CX-30 a versatile and attractive subcompact SUV choice.
