All three engines include a sporty six-speed automatic transmission and Mazda’s state-of-the-art i-Activ AWD system as standard.
The Toyota Corolla Cross only offers one powertrain option at the moment. All models are equipped with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine with an output of 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. It has less torque than the CX-30’s base engine, but also makes the Corolla Cross much less attractive to drivers who want more out of their SUV.
To make things worst, this engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission, a unit which lacks character and response on the road compared to the CX-30’s six-speed. Also, 2022 CX-30 models feature G-Vectoring Control Plus for improved cornering performance. The Corolla Cross doesn’t have this technology.
